LARGE barrels, casks and vats
Nadalie specialises in the manufacture of large barrels, casks and vats.
The Nadalie Cooperage Group manufactures these large vessels
(generally referred to as large barrels, vats or casks) on demand. We
are one of the few coopers left in the world that can do this.
Typically barrels and casks are those which are either round or oval in
configuration. The vats tend to be more upright.
It is a time honoured process that enables these rare skills to be utilised.
Rare and costly timbers being thicker and longer are seasoned
for five to seven years so they become suitable for barrel manufacture
and wine storage. These wonderful vessels are enjoying a resurgence around
the world. They are being used for some of the best wines available due
to their oak subtlies and integration which results from the large surface
area ratios achieved.

Depending on the winemaker's requirements Nadalie can custom build the vessel along with an array of accessories and fitments, including such items as - stainless steel piping and valves - sample cocks - stainless steel doors. Nadalie also manufactures the traditional wooden type, stillage supports. They are available in standard or made to order in either timber or steel. This range of products, whilst made in a variety of pre-determined sizes and shapes, offers the winemaker and cooper the opportunity to design and make something unique if required. Months of preparation and planning are involved in this highly skilled and specialised manufacturing process. |
